Paid/Perm-only s2 layouts available to all users
All s2 layouts, except for Component and The Boxer, are available to all users.

This is how it was before the lj_stylecontest and most of the ones that were added after that were restricted to Paid/Perm-only.

More benefits being taken from us. :\

(Thanks to shatteredshards for reminding me.)

Here's some excessive note-taking:

On 20030828 we get Component and The Boxer, the first 2 Paid/Perm-only s2 layouts.

Haha, it makes it slightly easier for me sometimes, I test things out on free journals before making the regular changes to certain things in my permie journal

oh noes! now we're not as special and élite! whatever shall we do besides complain endlessly?
kunzitekunzite1 on April 3rd, 2006 09:40 pm (UTC)

i still find it annoying that they're shuffling the "value" of all of the account types (soon to be "levels").
ファビュラス マックスjai_dit on April 3rd, 2006 09:47 pm (UTC)
Really, I don't see why people make such a big deal about it.
CJ Smithcjsmith on April 3rd, 2006 10:02 pm (UTC)
I think I'm with you -- if someone else has a thing, I don't see that as taking away from me. Particularly if nothing WAS taken away from me. Hey, my account capabilities are exactly the same as they used to be! Oh no!

O'course, I'd love it if they came up with various other bits of useful functionality and threw it at the perm members (or at everyone, I don't care). Thread unfolding. Killfiles (hehehe!). An option for comment notification mail without the extra equals signs MIME puts in. Lots of other stuff.
ファビュラス マックスjai_dit on April 3rd, 2006 10:06 pm (UTC)
Exactly. I'm fine with what I have, really... There's entirely too much jealousy going around. :|
ex_shattered767 on April 3rd, 2006 11:20 pm (UTC)
You forked out money to get something everyone else gets for free. Paid members are continuing to fork out money for it.

And mind you, this was announced to LJ staff and Support by March 20th, and this S2HowTo entry still claims the full 8 are paid/perm only. Two weeks and they have not said a word to users. You can't tell me that we don't have the right to know this, and on the flipside free users have not been told they gained access.
CJ Smithcjsmith on April 3rd, 2006 11:30 pm (UTC)
Well, if we're talking motivation, I forked out money in order to avoid forking out money in the future. I dislike S2 styles, so they weren't a draw for me. :-)
ex_shattered767 on April 3rd, 2006 11:35 pm (UTC)
Fine, look past whether you use the feature or not.

Look at the fact that LJ is deliberately not telling users things that do involve them.

They made the announcement 2 days later in paidmembers about more icons. We thought we were getting an additional benefit. There was no mention that something which had once been a benefit to us was now a benefit to everyone.

And considering there is a hell of a lot going on right now that they are choosing not to tell users, I find it sickening. I left Support a month ago over this bullcrap, and yet I still watch Support communities because they don't care enough about users to tell us what they're doing and it's one of the very few ways I can find out.
Diannamayna on April 4th, 2006 02:41 am (UTC)
Oh yes. My BIG BIG BIG beef is when I have to sit there and click the "thread" link on all the comments just to see what people wrote. I wish there was a way to just keep all the comments unfolded. I don't care if it is an option for everyone (I don't care about being elite, I just like not having to pay for LJ ever again).
kunzite: firefoxkunzite1 on April 4th, 2006 04:55 am (UTC)

if one is using firefox, they can install greasemonkey and install the lj thread unfolder script.
Diannamayna on April 4th, 2006 01:02 pm (UTC)
I've used it, and it's OK but it won't unfold all comments (only some of them) and only if you click them first.

Me three. "I have a permanent account" is still my #1 status symbol, not the bells and whistles.
...and a cute argumentative girl to wrestle withdamnitnicole on April 4th, 2006 02:27 am (UTC)
*shrugs*
As long as I'm getting more somewhere than free and regular paid users, I don't much care.

I got my permanent account because I didn't want to be constantly having to find cash to pay for my account. I got it all over with at once. So really, even as long as I'm getting paid user benefits, I'm not going to bitch. But, since they promised extra benefits, I'll go with the free AND paid users getting less than me. Which they still are, in userpics and SB space.

i'm cancelling my lj account! hehe ;)
Inzilbeth: Harry in the Maze_inzilbeth_ on April 3rd, 2006 09:41 pm (UTC)
This really does bother me too. There is not much left that is special just for us anymore.
The Water Seekerplymouth on April 3rd, 2006 11:28 pm (UTC)
enh. I've been using the basic classic style since... well, since I got my journal. They keep coming out with new styles and none of them beats the classic for useability and basic functionality. The s2 version of the classic layout made some minor improvements on it so I adopted that. I don't need my journal to look s00per l33t to alert everyone else to my permie status - *I* know!
kunzite: s2kunzite1 on April 3rd, 2006 11:30 pm (UTC)

if you have a paid/perm account you can alter any s2 layout to do anything you want. within the limitations of the allowed tags, of course.
The Water Seekerplymouth on April 3rd, 2006 11:37 pm (UTC)
I believe in the principle of "if it ain't broke don't fix it".
kunzitekunzite1 on April 3rd, 2006 11:41 pm (UTC)

many of us do.

i find that the s2 layouts aren't up to my liking, so, i hack on 'em to make them better for me.

other people have also benefited from my hacks and that's awesome.

you're content with your layout and that's great too.

one thing that many people can benefit from, and possibly even you, is that i've written a bit of code (that was then simplified by another user) that allows you to disable the entry text for a given entry, and have the ability to bring it back.
this is helpful when someone posts an entry with fubared html and it kills the rest of your layout. you can toggle that one entry and your layout is back to happiness.

i also like having the full linkbar (edit entry, edit tags, add to memories, in addition to comment links) on each entry.

so, the potential is there if you'd like to use it. and if you'd like to use any of it, i'd be willing to help.

i'm pretty damn tangentuous, can't you tell? XD
qfemaleqfemale on April 4th, 2006 10:52 am (UTC)
I have been using Generator S1 since the very begining. I have tried several times to get a hang of S2 but it just never happened. Besides HTML is so much easier ;-p

i don't want more S2 layers or whathaveyourthere, I want more ScrapBook space!
qfemaleqfemale on April 4th, 2006 05:17 am (UTC)
I guess there are two kind of perm users. The ones that care and the ones that don't.
I don't care. I paid for a perm account in the hope it's gonna pay itself off and I never again have to pay for anything on LJ!
As long as I have access to all tools as is now, I am happy ;-p
Schneelockeschnee on April 4th, 2006 10:12 am (UTC)
Amen. ^^
qfemaleqfemale on April 4th, 2006 10:36 am (UTC)
Yay I am not alone ;-.)
Schneelockeschnee on April 4th, 2006 10:40 am (UTC)
No, not at all. Judging from the comments posted so far, I'd say we're actually in the majority, even. :)
qfemaleqfemale on April 4th, 2006 10:47 am (UTC)
I hadn't have time to read the comments yet. I just got back from school. Oy!
Schneelockeschnee on April 4th, 2006 10:12 am (UTC)

More benefits being taken from us. :\

Bull. Nothing's taken from us - it's merely being made available to others as well. Don't be an elitist snob. :)

limitlessphoenixdreaming on April 4th, 2006 10:19 am (UTC)
*cheers* Yes, exactly.
qfemaleqfemale on April 4th, 2006 10:37 am (UTC)
I know you already agree with me but you totally spoke my mind. I didn't feel comfortable using the 'bad words'. But yes, you are totally right!
Schneelockeschnee on April 4th, 2006 10:40 am (UTC)
Thanks. ^_^
ρrho on April 4th, 2006 02:39 pm (UTC)
Absolutely agreed.

And furthermore, not only is nothing being taken away from us, extra stuff is being given to us as well. Just from looking at this entry, in the past two and a half years, we've got 8 extra styles to choose from, 112 extra userpics, the scrapbook feature with 10GB of storage space.
Schneelockeschnee on April 4th, 2006 02:39 pm (UTC)
Yeah... not to mention access to this exclusive community. ^.~
The Mother of an Angel!amberskye72 on April 7th, 2006 12:52 am (UTC)
I agree with you.

I have had my prem account since 2003.

I didn't know that some perm account holders were this upset about other account holders being given some benefits.

The perm account holders still do get extra benefits without having to pay extra for them.
So what if we have 100 moe benefits instead of 200.

Some people are not only being elitist snobs but getting this upset is not healthy.
