V-Gift Gooooooaaaallll!!!
By way of news

If you have a paid or permanent account, you can send five free soccer balls from Thursday, June 24th, at 4pm, PDT, until Monday June 28th, at 4pm, PDT! You'll see both the free and the $0.99 balls displayed until you've dribbled them to your friends.

Please send only one at a time. In other words, you'll need to complete check-out and start a new order for each ball you kick. If you're not receiving vgifts (from friends and/or Frank), you may have disabled them. To enable vgifts, visit Edit profile (under Profile), scroll down to the bottom of the page, and check your settings. Have a ball!

If you are not watching the 2010 FIFA World Cup (or even if you are), you can see the standings here. Appear worldly, up-to-date and super-savvy knowing the latest World Cup news!

Do tell: Where you are from, is the sport called football or soccer?

Totally soccer.

I'm from Scotland, so of course it is called football, or fitbaw, played with a bleather instead of a ball. Ok, so maybe that was a long time ago.

Here in Crazy Canuck Land, we call it soccer. But I usually say football, and not get it mixed up with the NFL/CFL/etc.

For those that can't read
This doesn't begin until Thursday. I spent at least 10 minutes trying to figure out why I couldn't send a friend a soccer ball. I'm guessing she doesn't have a LJ account anymore anyways...

Re: For those that can't read
Thanks! I hadn't started sending mine out yet, but I'm glad you caught that and shared it. I would have been like wtf too!

Re: For those that can't read
LOL I did the same! I was like "well, it's after 4 PDT so where's the free ball??".

D'oh.

"...see a word as a hyperlink..."

Wow I see a journal entry or comment and think I want to hit the like button! I know I'm not the only one (FaceBook!)

*nod* comprehension and even critical thinking skills for kids now has really taken a nosedive. I read recently (I think it was at Scientific American) that the multi-tasking-while-reading aspect of the internet is detrimental to our overall attention spans.

What was I saying...?

Fußball. Literally "football". We generally learn British English, so it's "football" there, too. "Soccer" is a silly word.

Do we really have to have these announcements in permmembers EVERY time as well? We all get it — there's always some free v-gifts for paying/permanent users whenever there's a news announcement.

news has gotten bad enough as far as spam and pointless drivel is concerned; let's please keep this community free of that and focus on things that actually matter. :P

No. Feel free to take some leadership and start a topic that isn't a complaint. =]

Yvonneabsolut on June 25th, 2010 02:23 am (UTC)
I grew up calling it football, but then I moved and here it's called soccer.
