Future, Account Status, Tags, Interests
Several persons have suggested that I suggest this community be made a permanent account, and given official or semi-official status, as has apparantly occurred with a couple other communities. To quote...
"...permanent members should be heard or at least let the new ideas that LJ has in mind bounce off of permanent members since we're stuck with the stuff for life. ... since many of the people who have permanent accounts anyway did some serious work to earn that ... there is a genuine interest in the service and highly possible that those statused members would be willing to provide very good feedback."
This would be nice; permmembers is currently a free account. In addition to focusing on permanent account-related issues, this community could also be more active -- depending largely in part on how much LiveJournal would let us be involved -- in the areas of development of paid accounts and LiveJournal overall. We have a vested interest in the continuing improvement and operation of LiveJournal, to include its feature-set. We have several intelligent and involved (S2, Support, etc.) persons in this community, so I don't think it's a difficult step to make.

The purpose of this community is primarily for issues that relate to permanent accounts, but in a general sense the continued development of LiveJournal relates to we permies. So, bear that in mind as you make posts. I suspect that an organized group of permanent accounters could have a strong impact on the development and future of LiveJournal. How that could work, I'm not entirely certain. At this time, I personally don't intend to make this suggestion -- as the maintainer/creator/whatever, I feel kinda like it would be self-serving. But, anyone who feels the community should be made a permanent account and given more official or semi-official status is certainly welcome to make the suggestion themselves. I do think the chances of this suggestion being approved would be bettered were the community to become a little more active and involved, as was suggested.

And getting mentioned in lj_spotlight might not hurt in bringing some attention to this community, either.

On a tangental note...

Tonight I intend to allow community members the ability to edit tags (assuming I haven't already -- can't remember -- and run into no problems doing so). Once that's done, feel free to tag entries as you feel appropriate. Part of the reason I'm doing this is so the community has a greater feeling of interactivity.

Also, currently permmembers has the following interests.
account types, early adopters, faq, free accounts, livejournal, livejournal development, livejournal support, livejournal volunteers, lj, paid accounts, permanent accounts, research, support, volunteering, volunteers
If there are other appropriate interests I should include in the community, please feel free to bring them to my attention. Good interests make it easier for people to find this community, as they conduct searches across LiveJournal.

OK, I'm done boring everyone for now.

Edit 01: Tag permissions/properties updated.

Edit 02: Following interests added to profile page: lj dev, communities, community, technical support, service, six apart, lj accounts, blogging, bloggers, r&d, research and development, vested, account status, custom styles, frank, frank the goat, livejournal, moodthemes, paid accounts, permanent accounts, phoneposts, polls, s1, s2, styles, userpics, loyalty userpics, feedback, account creation, account management, account features, polls, changelog, lj updates, participation, discussion, members, membership, membership status, improve lj, lj comm, ljcomm, web design, web development, utilities, lj utilities, openid, lj support, software development; thank you yayhappens.

component_help is a permie due to Component being available only to [Sponsored+/]Paid/Perm Accounts.

permmembers should be a permie due to it dealing with permie-type stuff.

permies should be able to become livejournal commandos.

we should get a somewhat-uniform userpic for members to be able to use. should be customizable, such as including their username.

might want to make a ring of comms that are focused on changes about lj or changing lj. such as improve_lj and no_lj_ads. the former still hasn't been officially launched yet, but, its intent is to constructively improve the LiveJournal experience. the latter has been launched and has been going pretty well. its intent is to inform users about the changes in and preparation for adverts on LiveJournal.

that's all i've got for now.

( might even consider making me a maintainer. ;) )

Well, if someone more eloquent than I can verbalize that in a suggestions post they're welcome to make that suggestion. I guess it couldn't hurt to ask.

lol - I'll leave that choice up to individual members.

Any particular reason they "should"? We might-could-should make a post requesting badges/icons/images promoting the community. I bet some could come-up with good images. And my goat icon, of course, is available for customization, should anyone wish.

That's something to consider. I'm not a fan of most rings I've seen, but depending on how it's executed, it could be a good thing.

improve_lj sounds interesting, even if it is closed membership. ;) I'd be curious to see how it turns-out once up and running. As for no_lj_ads goes, I've been watching that community.

Whatever would ya do with maintainership? ;) Actually, I thought I had done that already. It's done now. We can chit-chat about that later. :D

Evil!

Behave yourself in here so as not to interfere with my long-established plans for world domination. I get cranky when my plans for taking over the world are usurped. ;)
