quick question
I'm not sure if I can ask this here...but what is up with LJ only letting people update in rich text?  it really, really sucks...is there any progression to let LJ know it sucks and we want the other version back?  and if this post isn't allowed go ahead and delete it, but if some one could point me in the right direction I'd love that!!

The BYB says:
New entries posted on the Update Journal page will use text editor that you used last. If this is not the text editor you would like to use, you can change your default.

I just looked at the BYB and it was the first issue that was listed... no big deal.

You know so do I. But I barely can manage to unload my camera, leave alone have a life besides school *lol*

Big Yellow Box, it's the welcome message of the support center on LJ.

I like mine better - they should call it bring your own beer - though this is a PG site :p

It would be so nice if it actually worked that way but my experience has been it gives me plaintext for regular start-from-scratch entries but gives me the richtext format whenever I try to post pictures from scrapbook. But the most annoying part is it won't let me change it back once I get there. Gave me hours of frustration the other day.

I set it to default to plaintext now. We'll see if that helps anyway.

I know what you mean - it was driving me nuts all day yesterday :s I hope this does work - I don't have any posting to do today, so I might have to wait until tomorrow to be certain ;)
qfemaleqfemale on May 15th, 2006 02:22 pm (UTC)
I'm just glad I don't use the update page ;-p
Semagic all the way!

oh suckage then!

I have exactly the same problem -- I get the plain-text editor most of the time, but when posting pictures, I get the infurating rich-text editor. And that happens even though I've chnaged my settings to always use the plain-text editor.

There is a workaround, though. Click the SOURCE button in the poor-text editor, select-all, and then create a new journal entry and paste the code in. You'll then be able to use the plain-text editor.
Mr. Teem: The Futuremr_teem on May 16th, 2006 09:26 pm (UTC)
Except this doesn't work for the most important tag: lj-cut!

When you actually save the plain-text source, LJ infuriatingly moves the lj-cut out from around the picture you are posting. (There's a posted example on 24 April in my journal.)

I haven't posted a picture since.

[LJ support's responses so far have varied from "try again" to "we like it that way".]
Kensteelbrassnwood on May 16th, 2006 09:31 pm (UTC)
It does work. Please read my whole workaround. Yes, if you edit in the source window, the stupid editor moves the lj-cut tags around. So don't work there. What I said was, open the source window, copy its contents, create an entirely new entry from scratch, and paste into it the HTML you copied from the source window. You will then be able to edit freely, in the text mode, without the rich-text editor screwing up your tags.

well I suggested something to hopefully change it so that there isn't any more of that automatically going to RTF. . .we shall just see if it goes down. . .

I always hit stop as soon as I see the html pop up. . .sometimes I have to go back and do it a few times. . .but that's MY solution. There is another one with the source button, but I haven't done that one.

Thank you!
It was driving me nuts!

;-)
Marcus L. Rowland: Kitten Kongffutures on May 15th, 2006 12:59 pm (UTC)
I'm obviously missing something here - I'm just seeing the usual text entry screen when I go to update my journal, and hand code the HTML if I need any. Isn't this the default any more?
Charmander: mulder - thinkingpokecharm on May 15th, 2006 01:48 pm (UTC)
I guess at some point they changed it so the last one you used is the default - but you can switch it back :)
.kellzilla on May 15th, 2006 06:33 pm (UTC)
It must be the last one you POSTED with, not just the last one you used... I do some rich text stuff for copying over the source to comments a lot (if I have a comment with a lot of bolding/italicizing, so I don't have to do it by hand) and the plain text update page is still my default. If I do any coding in a post, I prefer to do it by hand anyway.

I just wish they would give us a link to change back to plain text, preserving the source, when we've written stuff in rich text format. Your coding is preserved when you switch from plain text to rich text, so why not give us the other way too? Sometimes LJ is not quite ... all there.
Charmanderpokecharm on May 15th, 2006 06:40 pm (UTC)
that's a good point - it does do that and it drives me mad sometimes...I don't get that at all - edit should always be in one mode or the other - not both :s
Kensteelbrassnwood on May 15th, 2006 06:42 pm (UTC)
The only way I've noticed it is by posting pictures from the scrapbook. Otherwise I always get the default text editor.
