(Mod Post) New Icons + a Q&A
While recently creating a couple icons, I decided to create two new icons for this community.

First, is the actual community icon for permmembers. While the original community icon was decent enough, I decided it was time for something a little spiffier. And the result...

permmembers icon

...is this. Naturally I had to continue the goat theme. But instead of just a solid goat outline, we now have something that is a little more dynamic, and includes identifying marks -- both the community name, and the permanent account badge that is slated to be used on the new userinfo pages. If you feel it appropriate, feel free to use the community icon when promoting permmembers.

Additionally, to more easily distinguish moderator/maintainer posts I make, I will be using the following newly-created icon:

permmembers moderator icon

So, when you see the icon in use, it means I'm making an announcement/statement or addressing a concern regarding administration of this community.
(And hopefully I now have icons that reflect the coolness that is this community's membership.)
So, while we're at it...

Are there any questions, concerns, suggestions, or ideas regarding this community? I'm in the mood to take questions. If not, that's cool, but if you do have something I'd love to address what you might have to say.

Once again, thanks to everyone for their involvement in this community. May hope, love, and warmth be in your heart's possessing, and may the New Year
bring you and yours many blessings!

hm. alternate moderator post icon: Frank wearing his "moderator hat" :)

I'll consider that for a future round of icon creating. For the time being, I'd like to try a consistent look. And perhaps a layout for this community.

They are lovely icons.

Thank ya, kindly. :)

Nice ones. :) Hmm, questions... did anything ever happen with regard to getting a special "join" function, similar to paidmembers (IIRC) that automatically checks for permanent status?

Happy New Year to you, too! :)
Yáng Yuǎn Zhì: Mod:Permmembersadudeabides on December 31st, 2006 01:31 pm (UTC)

Nothing has yet happenned with a special "join" function. I plan to submit a suggestion to suggestions recommending implementation of this feature.

I have yet to actually make this post, though. I will, however, and then post to this community letting everyone know it has been suggested. Then if anyone has input, they can share such in the post in suggestions.

I'll try to get this knocked-out within the next week. (Assuming I don't forget again. heh) Thanks for the reminder.

You're welcome. Hmm, I think I should check out how this is implemented for paidmembers - maybe I can cook up a patch. I imagine it might make it easier to get this implemented if all the LJ folks will have to do is review and merge it... :)

There was a post not long ago in this community discussing the relevant sections of code. That may prove helpful. If you're actually capable of writing a patch -- because I'm not -- then that would be great. And hopefully help make this suggestion implementable.
Schneeschnee on December 31st, 2006 01:56 pm (UTC)
I can't promise anything, but I can take a look. :) (I actually did write a very small patch once which was added to the site, but that was really just a handful of lines, so it doesn't really count. ^_~)

Mmmm, you probably mean this post? That looks like a good starting point, yes - thanks for the pointer. :)

just the idea that there might be concerns regarding administration of this community is humorous to me.

the community averages 2 posts a month and they have to be approved first. what concerns could possible arise?
Yáng Yuǎn Zhì: Mod:Permmembersadudeabides on December 31st, 2006 01:47 pm (UTC)
There are few concerns with moderation for this community, for sure.

Moderation of entries is part of this; it has the specific advantages of weeding-out inappropriate entries and making moderation of the community more transparent to the members. I consider transparency to be important, and there is a need for that based on some of the posts that have been declined.

There are other aspects of moderation, too. Even if that's just stepping in to make guiding corrections or informational posts. Fortunately, this community is fairly low-maintenance. Very low-drama, for sure. Which is awesome (there are grown-ups on LJ). But there are a few administrative concerns, as in all communities. *shrugs*

Yours is nice, but I'll stick to mine, thanks ;)

These icons were not intended for personal use, but for community use. (Unlike certain previous icons i've made).

So...enjoy what you enjoy.

I like it! Kind of reminds me of E.T., heh.

I submitted a post over a month ago, and it's still not posted.

What's up with that? (and I haven't heard anything about it being rejected)
Yáng Yuǎn Zhì: Mod:Permmembersadudeabides on February 22nd, 2007 03:41 pm (UTC)
What is up with that is that I don't think anyone received notification that an entry had been submitted. I certainly haven't. And had you not said something, it might have been awhile before I realized it was there, as I rely on notifications to track things.

on the permanent account badge that is slated to be used on the new userinfo pages, what happened with that? I wish they had done it! :-\
Yáng Yuǎn Zhìadudeabides on June 7th, 2007 11:16 pm (UTC)
They've put the re-design of the userinfo page on the back-burner for the time being.
