Bitterness of non Perm Members
I was just wondering if any of the older perm members experienced the bitterness of non perm members or is this just because of the strike though?

Not just bitter remarks but insulting ones at that.

"strike through"??

Strikethrough 07, where LJ suspended a slew of accounts.

What sort of bitterness are you talking about? Like...can you provide an example so I can understand?

The Strikethrough-specific stuff that I have seen is all of the "I won't give my money to you, Livejournal, and the people who do are SUCKERS" variety.

My partner (who purchased 2 years ago) got a lot of "I hate you for having the money" sort of bitterness. Like, people he knew outside of LJ were angry because someone (his mother) spent the money (for his only birthday gift).

But I call that "greed".

oh i think most of it is rooted in envy. i was told once that perm accounts are for 'the paris hilton's on livejournal'.

i don't know about all of you, but this community sure seems to have a lot of celebutants to me.

I did run into a discussion about perm accounts post-Strikethrough in someone else's journal or comm where someone was being loud about how anyone who buys a perm account is selling out, or some rant like that. I pointed out that perm account sales have happened before and that I snagged mine back in 2002, and the bitter poster said to me, "Too bad you can't get your money back and use it for something worthwhile."

But that's about it, really. I've kept my head down through a lot of this.
Ashleyashley on June 28th, 2007 10:10 pm (UTC)
What's funny about this is that I personally wouldn't have bought a perm account under current conditions. But I also bought mine in 2002 when it was $100. Which means, its paid itself off because i'd have paid more than that in paid time and extra features by now.

So its not like if i lose it now, i didn't get my moneys worth.

The 'great strikethrough' was a wankfest of giganticaly overinflanted proportions.

It is true what the say about the smaller the stakes.
Artelaartela on June 28th, 2007 09:06 pm (UTC)
No problems here, but then my journal is locked down to friends only and a lot of my friends too the opportunity to go perm themselves :-)

I posted updates on my LJ about the upcoming sale because I knew a few of my FList were interested, and the latest post got (paraphrasing) one not after Strikethrough comment, one I don't have the money comment, one Who knows how long LJ will be around before the technology changes and one woo woo!. And the woo woo! joined. ;)

I remember when I first got a Paid account in like... 2002... I was worried that I wouldn't still be using the service in six months. And so on. Anyway, I've had this thing for going on six years, and I can't see it stopping ever.
Amirealamireal on June 28th, 2007 09:08 pm (UTC)
I found it interesting the huge amount of people who felt that people with perm accounts were put into a category of "LJ has gotten all it will from me so they won't care."

Personally? I'm more likely to get other people gifts now. Perm account holders are still likely to spend money, just not on their perm account. I may turn one of my other free accounts into a paid account now, or gift someone else with a year of paid time.

Perm accountb =/= never giving LJ money again.
Spring Nights Forevertallblue on June 28th, 2007 09:16 pm (UTC)
True I have another paid account that I use to play with themes and such. Plus I do send LJ gifts to my friends.

Some, but never directed at me personal.

Stuff like 'you just did that to be more l33t' or 'you don't even know if LJ is going to be around 'that' long'.

My guess is they are just jealous - most of the time anyway.

I see a bit because of strike through, but I've had a perm account since '02, and I haven't seen bitterness... A touch of playful envy maybe ;)
Gonethe_ravyn on June 28th, 2007 09:16 pm (UTC)
Nope, and even if I did, I wouldn't pay it much mind.
Ann: MKsmileamergina on June 28th, 2007 09:24 pm (UTC)
I've only seen it on news, not on my flist... but then there are a lot of perm users on my list, so...

I actually have two perm accounts... this one since 2002 and I just bought one for another journal of mine.

...'the paris hilton's on livejournal'.

I'm way too old and fat (and brunette) to be Paris Hilton. I just have a really good job.

I do my best to avoid drama and generally only have people I know face-to-face (or, at the very least, from venues outside of LJ) as "LJ friends." It's increasingly more difficult to avoid drama on LJ these days, but it makes for a much more stress-free and enjoyable quality of life. Life's too short to worry about what other people think of you.
