I loved getting small snippets of time from LJ as a Paid Member when there were major outages or site problems. It showed great customer service and willingness to go an extra step. As Perm Members we already have access to all the perks. A suggestion for LJ might be to give us the occasional Virtual Gift to bestow. I have used a few and they are fun. Would not using this as an additional perk on occasion also have the benefit to LJ to publicize the Virtual Gifts?
Just an idea but I think maybe a good one for all involved......

Disagree. I don't use virtual gifts and I honestly don't like them either. Free paid time was something useful that I could have used. I don't want to be gifted with pixels that I think are worthless.

In the past they only offered free paid time for your own account, you couldn't give it to somebody else. So as a permie that free paid time is completely useless to you.

To be honest, if we were going to get free virtual gifts that I would rather not had, I'd rather get free paid time that I could gift to another LJer of my choosing. If we got free virtual gifts, I'd be looking for the virtual recycling bin to trash them.

All my friends know to NOT give me any virtual gifts because I dislike them a lot.

What good is 7 hours of paid time going to do someone really?
yueniyueni on July 26th, 2007 05:46 pm (UTC)
When LJ gifts people paid time to compensate from a situation like this, they usually give a few days or a week of paid time.

For something that they had no control over when they haven't finished fixing their mess from Strikethrough?

Someone needs their priorities looked at.

The people involved in providing free paid time are different from the people involved in fixing the Strikethrough mess. Also, compensation with free paid time is something that LJ has historically done. Do they need to do it? Probably not, but it is at least a nice little bit of goodwill on their part.

Last time it was a week of paid time because the entire site was down for *several* days.

I don't expect more than a day of compensation, maybe 2 days tops.

Why do you hate them so much?
yueniyueni on July 26th, 2007 05:55 pm (UTC)
I find them useless and a waste of money. And, as I told my flist, if they want to spend $1 on a virtual image for my user info (which I do not want), they'd do better to put it in a fund to buy themselves more user icon space or a paid LJ. Heck. Go out to the store and get themselves a bar of chocolate or a stick of gum. At least that's useful.

Getting free virtual gifts is a waste of money? Okay. Got it. Roger.

Agreed. Virtual gifts are possibly one of the tackiest ideas I've seen. Why on earth would I want to inflict lame clipart on my flist?

If they want to give small amounts of paid time to users, I'd be happy to get the same if I could pass it on to a friend. That sounds a much more useful option than pixels o' crap.
