I loved getting small snippets of time from LJ as a Paid Member when there were major outages or site problems. It showed great customer service and willingness to go an extra step. As Perm Members we already have access to all the perks. A suggestion for LJ might be to give us the occasional Virtual Gift to bestow. I have used a few and they are fun. Would not using this as an additional perk on occasion also have the benefit to LJ to publicize the Virtual Gifts?
Just an idea but I think maybe a good one for all involved......

It's a cute idea, and I wouldn't complain if it's implemented, but I don't think there is any necessity to reimburse perm members for service downtime, especially if it was for less than 24 hours.

Hypothetically, if LJ were to shut down permanently with no notice they wouldn't owe us anything.
