down time compensation
Forgive me if this came up in the down time comensation thread long ago, but with the new thread about the v-gifts, I started thinking on it again, and decided that while I'm a little bit late, I'm ticked.

I bought my perm account in the most recent sale. I was very happy to get the options to move teh remainder of the paid time to my other account that I never would pay for. So when they offered compensation for the down time, I went to claim it on that account.

But LJ told me that account wasn't eligible for compensation for the down time.

Did anybody else have this problem? Does this just seem horribly wrong to anybody else? Since we bought a permanent account, that other money that we have paid to lj means even less? I can't believe I didn't think about it until now, but it really aggravates me.

what exactly were you expecting?
forever + five days?

Re: what exactly were you expecting?
I think the point was that the remaining time on the "permed" account was assigned to an account that hadn't been previously "paid" and it's that account with the tranferred time that wasn't eligible for compensation.

that happened to me too which was really disappointing because I wanted to change the layout before it expired

I didn't expect compensation for my perm account, I think we have it all basically. Plus it was less than 8 hours of down time and through no fault of their own.

The V-gift was a nice thing though.

I wasn't expecting compensation for my Perm account - but for the secondary account that I have that got the extra paid days when my main account turned perm.

welcome to the internets...
not everything always works perfectly or is fair in every way to everyone.

This isn't really relevant.

Just to make sure, was said account still paid when the downtime happened?
Goddess of ______love2loveher on August 18th, 2007 01:37 am (UTC)
yes. Still had about 150 days left...

Did something automated tell you it wasn't eligible? Did it specifically say "this journal not eligible because it's transferred time"? If not, I'd contact someone and ask to be sure it's not just a glitch.

From what I gathered from reading the comments in the post where the compensation was announced, this was a glitch - as far as I remember, some people had the same problem, commented about it and were told to open Support requests about it (or perhaps someone fixed it right away - I don't remember exactly).

So it's likely that this was indeed an error and not evil intent on LJ's part.

To clarify: are you miffed because their was no compensation to the account that you transferred your paid time to?

If so, did you transfer that paid time AFTER the down time occurred? Because unless it was a paid account at the time the downtime occurred, it's not eligible for the extra three days. If you transferred it BEFORE the down time occurred then it would/should have been, regardless of whether the paid time was initially bought for that account or not.

At least, this is my understanding.

I transferred the time before the down time, and there was still paid time when I tried to get the extra time. But from other comments here, it looks like it was a glitch, and lj offered to correct the matter...

I'm not on staff, but it's possible that if you opened a support request about this it could be arranged. It probably was not intentional - they might not even know that the compensation doesn't worked for transferred paid time.
Goddess of ______: LJ-Dramalove2loveher on August 18th, 2007 01:41 am (UTC)
Thanks! from other comments, that does seem to be the case...
Daniellelikethe309 on August 18th, 2007 01:31 am (UTC)
lj was only down for 8 hours-due to a power outage. I think its shitty for anyone to expect anything for free....
Goddess of ______: LJ-Dramalove2loveher on August 18th, 2007 01:42 am (UTC)
I never expected anything!
And... that's why I didn't raise hell at the time. But when I got to thinking about it later, for them to offer something for free, and it not be offered to this account because the (completely paid for) time had been transferred, seemed wrong. But from other comments, it appears to have been a glitch.

You may find this thread helpful and informative- it was a bug in the claim page that was too big to fix before the deadline to claim time anyway. Like boredinsomniac said, probably best to file an Accounts support request about it.
