After seeing some of the "Vote for me!" posts, I thought I'd get a feel for what you permmembers think of it.

LJ Advisory Board

I think It's a godsend!
0(0.0%)
I think it has potential
89(42.6%)
I think it's a joke
120(57.4%)

ETA: This poll is about the Advisory Board, not the campaigning for it.

ETA #2: Joke: something that is amusing or ridiculous, esp. because of being ludicrously inadequate or a sham; a thing, situation, or person laughed at rather than taken seriously; farce: Their pretense of generosity is a joke. An officer with no ability to command is a joke.

Seconded. I'm not sure how I feel about the LJ Advisory Board. I don't know enough about it. However, I was going to vote "I think it's a joke" for this poll when I initially thought it was about all the "Vote for me!" posts.

thats what I thought it meant. I vote to end campaigning in this forum.

But then this is one of the communities where such pimping's actually on-topic, so really it shouldn't be banned in here at all.

Two posts is 'insanely spammy'? I'd hate to see what you consider sane.

I don't like seeing the nomination posts, but two posts does not a flist break.
.kellzilla on May 6th, 2008 03:13 am (UTC)
"That comm" not "this comm" - they're talking about the official "nominate yourself" comm, I would guess. (I'm too lazy to go look for the link.)

It seems to me like it's going exactly as the comm rules set out, so I can't imagine why you were expecting to be any different than advertized!

And what could be more ordely than one post each per self-nomination and getting seconds in the comments? Enlighten me, please :~)

I think it's a joke, but yeah. We all know the people who really make things happen don't care too much about the users anymore..

Something that doesn't have any teeth could also be considered mostly harmless. So something without any teeth could gum you which most would figure to be a joke but then again, it could have strong jaw strength in which it could have some potential.

Then again, there's always "DON'T PANIC!"

Hmm, yeah, I think that's what I was getting at in my comment below but failed to explain very well. Not pathetic enough to be called a joke but not useful enough to have real potential. "Mostly harmless". I like it :)
woman_of_woman_of_ on May 6th, 2008 02:22 am (UTC)
I think it has potential, if they listen. So far the ones in charge haven't, nor told them everything before making an annoucement

I think you just described pretty much every election ever held anywhere!

The Water Seekerplymouth on May 6th, 2008 05:39 am (UTC)
I think it has an eensie teensie bit of potential but not enough for me to actually care. So if it's a joke it's a very lame one. So I don't know how to answer the poll :)

Here's the definition I was aiming for:

Something that is amusing or ridiculous, esp. because of being ludicrously inadequate or a sham; a thing, situation, or person laughed at rather than taken seriously; farce: Their pretense of generosity is a joke. An officer with no ability to command is a joke.
The Water Seekerplymouth on May 6th, 2008 06:11 am (UTC)
Yes, yes, I know what a joke is. I was saying it's inadequate, but not enough so as to be ludicrous. So I'd vote for something in between "has potential" and "is a joke".
Schneelockeschnee on May 6th, 2008 07:09 am (UTC)
Both #2 and #3 - I think it has potential, but will, more likely than not, turn out to be a joke, where business will continue as usual while SUP will also have the ability to point and say, "but we ARE listening to you - that's why we have the advisory board!".

We'll see, though.
forthwrittenforthwritten on May 6th, 2008 10:09 am (UTC)
They've already shown they're not listening to the 'experts' advisory board, why should this be any different?

I think it's a joke. It will be an exercise in rubber stamping while the election will no doubt involve a lot of petty BNF ass kissing. I imagine I will continue to ignore it as much as I do anything else until there's someone hysterical to poke on a news post.

'Cos that's always fun.

It's totally a joke; they're not gona care.

Besides I don't even know any of you people. Why should I vote for anyone who isn't LJ-famous?
Über Geekwyntermoonwolf on May 6th, 2008 04:39 pm (UTC)
jameth is running. He's kinda LJ infamous. He's getting a lot of nominations.
Knorg Knorgsson: FuturamaOTPcrackpig on May 6th, 2008 08:06 pm (UTC)
I heard theferrett was going to run promoting a hands on approach.
Pinkdramonpinkdramon on May 6th, 2008 09:43 pm (UTC)
*snort* is that a double entendre? "Hands on approach." Very funny. Did you mean to do that in light of his open source boob project?

By Jove, I think he's got it.

Indeed, by "hear" I meant "Made it up for the sole purpose of existing as a double entendre delivery vehicle."

I say, what.
