Benefits of permanent member?
I'm too lazy to go look back, but I know somewhere there was a whole breakdown about the perks of being permanent (with numbers) as opposed to a paid user for 4 years or something.

Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Or anyone wanna expand on the issue?

I thought this page included permanent, but it turns out it doesn't.

FAQ38 has a few numbers.. but not in a chart.

It would be nice if they included Permanent in that chart format, for comparison' sake.

All I remember is that back when a perm account was $100 and a paid account $25, after four years, the perm account basically paid for itself - provided you were going to be a paying customer for the full four years. After that, the account was basically free for life.

The only perks, as I recall, were the additional user icons and never again having to fork up money every year. At least, that's what I got out of the bargain.

Now that the accounts are more expensive, I'm not sure how it would break down. :/

Yeah, we'd probably need to use lj for 6+ years to come out even, but with the layoffs and DreamWidth gearing up, not sure if that's going to happen necessarily for newer perm members. I go where the fandom community goes *shrug*

Usually I'm pretty up on those sorts of things, but I have no idea here, I don't remember ever having seen that breakdown (though I know at one point I crunched the numbers a little myself to justify the purchase). I don't think I have anything to add that you wouldn't already know with how long you've been on LJ and all

150 userpics versus the 30 userpics offered to Paid accounts.
Maximum number of loyalty userpics.
Access to 15360 MB (15 GB) of ScrapBook photo storage space.

I think everything else is the same as paid accounts.

195 userpics

For automatic payments, the fee was 19.95 USD per year. Otherwise, it was 25.00 per year.

With recent price increases, that would make seven years to break even. Unless they raise the prices of annual membership too.

But if you were paying for all the other services that we get free as paid members? Like the extra userpics and extra storage and whatever?

I am not sure exactly what you are looking for but I found this and this.

Mathematically speaking I would say it breaks down like this..

$20 a year for paid time.
$20 a year for extra userpics since permanent accounts get almost 200 verses the 100 of paid accounts.
$36 a year for storage space since we get 15GB and you can purchase up to 10GB for a paid account.

Which equals $76 a year.

If you paid $150 for your permanent account that equals 1 year and 9 months.

If you paid $175 for your permanent account that equals 2 years and 3 months.

Is it sad that the only thing I like about being Perm is the a) not paying and the b) gold star?
