My friend cuboz has decided to commit more serious thoughts to LJ. I applaud him for having the courage to share some of these deep thoughts with us. Which bring up the thought about "us" at LJ and who we are and what we want LJ to be.

cuboz writes that Facebook is full of all "fluffy" thoughts and silly things. People ridicule serious subjects or ignore them completely. This certainly sets us LiveJournal participants apart from those at Facebook. If LiveJournal is to flourish we must have content. Perhaps this is a direction that we need to be working toward.

I know that serious writing can be draining but it can also be rewarding. The LiveJournal platform with longer content is ideal for putting down thoughts. I would really like to see more of that.

Everyone has their own style with some people writing on lighter subjects. My journal tends to be more travel related but I do try to share things of importance. If I see an article interesting enough to share its link, I also write my thoughts about it making it a more personal connection and hopefully making it interesting to you who read my content.

Share yourself with us. You will finding it rewarding.

I’ve (intentionally) never signed up for Facebook, so I don’t know how fluffy things are over there. And I probably won’t try to write longer or more thoughtful posts. My journal rambles enough as it is.

But maybe we could share the other LiveJournals that we love to read or that inspire us. Perhaps reading more thoughtful journals will inspire us to produce more substantial content ourselves.

I follow a couple of LiveJournals for serious content:

(I also follow a bunch of feeds such as scalzifeed, xkcd_rss and apod – but those don’t count as LiveJournal content.)

What gets me about face book is all the lying (well that might be too strong of a word). People putting an facades. Even family members who by their Facebook posts are doing so well and are so happy and then I talk to them and they are in serious crisis!

I have been unpleasantly surprised a few times now.

The bragging! I can't stand it(its like an all year Christmas letter every day!), however I noticed that the people who do it have had painful losses, like a divorce so they hyper focus on the kids or the dog or grand kids and they post like umteen photos a day about the same thing..... Everyday! its like bizarro world on Facebook!

Or they yell about politics or whatever cause they are behind and God forbid if your thoughts on the matter differ from theirs, then you are a hater or an "anti" then drama. And all with family members or locals friends. Yuck.

No substance at all, no content there, just freak outs, emotions and those memes shaming you to like the post.

I have around three friends here that still post (I am grateful for), I miss the former LJ days, I would happily accept the bad to have the good back again.
