[Mod Post] More Newbies
If there were a 270-mark, this community has hit it in membership. There was a small flood of you this morning who joined...wherever you happenned to come from, welcome. Go share something about yourself here, if you'd like. If you aren't new, feel free to check-out the newbies who've joined and posted something about themselves.

Also, so far for the most part, posts have been on-topic and informational (or otherwise beneficial). If we can bring our numbers up to around 350-400 permies (I still like that term, whoever first started using it) and the posts remain of good quality, we may have a decent shot at getting a suggestion approved to (a) make this account permanent, as is fitting, (b) gain "official status," with luck, and (c) possibly get this community's "Join" page to function as the paidmembers page and auto-moderate/approve membership based on account status...so I don't have to review individual userinfo pages to see if prospectees are actual permies and so they don't have to wait for me to approve them (though to be fair, I think I'm generally quick about that).

So, if anyone's oh-so-eloquent in their words and wants to help with writing a justifiable suggestion that won't be shot-down, let me know. And of course, keep recruiting. ;-) I don't know if anyone actively does that, but the word gets out there somehow apparantly. Thanks to everyone for their assistance and contributions!

I posted the link to the last entry a few times today when I saw a rant about a certain petition... ;-)

Let me know if you need help approving new members ;-p

When I first found out about the community (from one of your comments in a post on news I think) I put a post about it in my own LJ because I know I have quite a few permie friends. I think 3 or 4 people joined as a result. But that was a couple of months ago now.

Let's see.
It gathers permanent account members in much the same way that paidmembers gathers paid members, though not automatically.

It is a good forum for the announcement and discussion of issues that specifically impact permanent members; currently, the only "official" comms that apply to that are the usual suite of paidmembers, news, lj_biz, featureannounce, and the like. It's not like there's a duplicate, and judging from the membership rates, it's needed.

It is both popular and sanely moderated.

Would the maintainer be open to the thought of sharing maintainership with an Official LJ Presence?

Would the maintainer be open to the thought of new permanent members being auto-added to the community, in the same fashion that paidmembers works? (I do not think that it would, could, or should be grandfathered so that all permanent members who aren't members then become members.)

Man, what was the name of that project that took lines from the posts of pemanent members and collated them into short posts that made the mundane into the surreal? I know it's still on my friendslist, but it just -- stopped -- a while ago.

I can take care of a and possibly b, c will take some engineering work, but we'll see.

"Take care of," as in help justify or actualy do with fancy LJ-powers? o.0

As far as c goes, how do they do it with paidmembers? (Always been something I've been curious about, but really have limited knowledge in...)

I believe they use a special script to automacticly sign up people who have paid accounts.

If you need someone to help out with approving members and what not, I'm happy to volunteer. If not thats fine too.

I appreciate the offer, but we now have four people co-maintaining the community, so I think for the time being things are under control. I'll keep you in mind for the future, though. Thanks.
